The Project
The project at Alexander Stadium in Birmingham consisted of a £12m grandstand which was completed in 2012. The 5000 seat grandstand which was designed to be extended also comprises 2500sqm of self contained office space on two floors, with interconnecting stairs and lift which have been constructed beneath the grandstand. Adjacent to the offices is 535sqm of public Gym space, which includes showers and changing facilities and will supplement the existing gym at the stadium.
This development is the first stage of a masterplan to re-develop Alexander stadium to ultimately provide a 35,000 seat athletics stadium for the City. The long term plan for the overall development of the stadium is to enable it to play host to the Commonwealth Games.
Located within the existing Perry Park, the structure occupies a position adjacent to the back straight of the athletics running track. The plot has remained undeveloped since the stadium was refurbished in the 1970’s.
The project received a BREEAM ‘very good’ rating.
